Despite what lieutenant James Dangle (if you're younger than 30, google it) would have you believe, Reno is a wonderful place to live and work. Reno is a small city that really has a small-town feel, and being nestled between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the high desert of Nevada, the outdoor recreation opportunities here are spectacular. For example, there are multiple ski resorts within a few-minutes drive of the UNR campus, and Lake Tahoe is only a 30 minute drive away. San Francisco and the Pacific coast are only a few hours drive over the mountains. Reno itself is filled with warm, welcoming people, and has a number of excellent restaurants, bars, and other spots for blowing off steam after a long day doing science. Check out some pictures below of the Reno area that I shamelessly stole from google images.

Although Reno is known nationally for its casinos, the city has much more to offer. The lights at night often beautifully contrast against the backdrop of the snowy Sierra Nevada mountains.

Lake Tahoe, with all of it's spectacular hiking, boating, biking, and skiing, is only a 30 minute drive from downtown Reno.

The Sierra Nevada mountains, on the west side of Reno, offer breathtaking opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, and mountain climbing...not to mention field work!

The Sierra Nevada mountains are to the west, but to the east lies the beautiful Great Basin desert. Opportunities to study desert organisms abound. And, of course, many beautiful places to hike and camp!

The Truckee River flows through downtown Reno, and it is bordered by the River Walk with it's world-class restaurants and bars.

The University of Nevada, Reno, is Nevada's flagship, land-grant university. The Carnegie Institution of Higher Education classifies UNR as a Tier 1 university, meaning a university with the "highest level of research activity". The beautiful UNR campus is centrally located in Reno.

The Logan Lab is in the Sarah Fleishmann building, which is adjacent to the picturesque UNR quad.
